Homelink's Meals on Wheels is a private, non-profit agency governed by a voluntary board and is managed by Homelink, Inc. This home delivered meals agency has grassroots beginnings. It was first organized in 1974 by a small group of concerned persons who recognized the need for a home delivered meal program. Since then, thousands of persons have benefited from receiving nutritious meals in their local community.
To be eligibile for the service, meal recipients must meet the following criteria:
Homelink's Meals on Wheels delivers to specific zip codes in Northwest, North, and West Philadelphia. All meals are planned by a registered dietician and are low in sodium and cholesterol. Dinner consists of a protein source, vegetable and a starch and is served with bread, juice, milk and dessert. A fee is charged. When available, donations are used to assist eligible consumers with paying for their meals. Meals are delivered the next delivery day following the request for service. It is important to note that agencies receiving federal funding (area agencies on aging) take a few weeks or longer to respond to a request for home delivered meals.
